About this website...

Masculinity is a fundamentally important topic for anthropology. Male identity, what makes a man a man, is an issue each male of our species has to explore and find for himself. Culture plays a defining role in this individual development of manhood. We see different forms of manhood in all the different media outlets, in historical accounts, and from the people around us. This can cause great confusion among males. This website seeks to explore the idea of masculinity in the form of big-picture models, looking at wholes as opposed to pieces. Two basic models of masculinity are explored as well as the historical transition from the traditional Strong Man to the New Man. However, as can be seen in the summary, masculinity in the modern world is far more complicated than these two simple models.
